Summer Hair Detox Tips

We all (well, most of us!) love summer and the sun. Our hair though? Not so much!

During the warmer weather, the sunshine, chlorine in swimming pools, sea water and SPF can all take their toll on our hair and our scalp, as well as all the products we usually use.

And if you're then using lots of nourishing masks or oils to combat this, this can sometimes cause hair that's overloaded with products - creating new problems for the hair.

So if your hair is feeling dull, heavy, dry, or greasy at the roots, it could be time for a summer reset!

The aim of a detox is to remove all the build-up on your scalp so that your hair feels properly clean and fresh again. This will also help your hair to properly absorb the treatment products that you're using.

The double cleanse

Incorporating a good double cleanse is a must for your summer hair routine.

The first time you cleanse your hair will help to remove surface build-up, and the second will then allow the shampoo to properly cleanse your hair and scalp.

The only point to keep in mind with a double cleanse is to be aware not to use a strong clarifying shampoo too much so that your hair doesn't end up feeling too dry.

Your summer detox routine

I personally like to think about the hair detox process as:

RESET → REPLENISH → PROTECT

Reset is where we remove unwanted product, oil, and anything else that has built up on our scalp.

The Replenish part of the process is using the right treatments to restore softness and moisture to your hair, either at home or with a professional treatment.

Then, we Protect! This is where you adjust your routine to protect your hair from any further damage.

One final tip

Don't wait until you're at crisis point with your hair. A little tweak to your routine over the summer can make a huge difference, and giving your hair a bit of extra love now will pay off hugely over the coming months.
